Are you losing grip on your own sense of inner peace and purpose?
Ruminating into how essential it is for us to truly know ourselves and honor our inner needs.
We all have our thing! That built in, intrinsic ability; our purpose and passion and drive that are the essence of who we really are. Even if you don’t know you have it, you do. Each of us comes in to this life with this. Ever so crucial is to tune into this authentic self and to know it’s essential to attend to this faithfully.

For me, my ‘thing’ is ever growing my consciousness and making time for self-care, self-development, and self-honoring. Yes, all-things self. And no I don’t feel selfish. Not in the least. Ironically the fuel for all of this is my knowing I am here to help others do all of this. Help them discover their passion and purpose and to trust they are enough, worthy and meant to pursue their dreams. Many struggle with this – perhaps women in particular yet I feel our males do as well. A glance at the stats of those on anti-depressants is enough to convince even nay-sayers that humans today are in a crisis. In Dec, 2016 NBC reported:
"Overall, 16.7 percent of 242 million U.S. adults reported filling one or more prescriptions for psychiatric drugs in 2013,” they wrote in the Journal of the American Medical Association’s JAMA Internal Medicine.
Self-knowing...The last few decades my own career has had a strong nutrition focus yet it all started with own my burning desire for self-help and self-care. I sourced out and read all I could find that resonated with me on being the best version of myself that I could be so I could inspire others. My sights were fixed on positively contributing to this planet and its inhabitants in any way I could. Some of my early mentors included Dr Wayne Dyer, Ram Dass, Shakti Gawain, Erhard seminars training or EST, Deepak Chopra and Victor Frankl. I still learn from these teachers and so many more as I navigate life as best I can with a peaceful, loving, patient and compassionate heart. In this crazy, mixed up and often messed up world, I can honestly say I am (mostly) at peace with myself. The foundation in faith I inherited from my folks-my family is truly one of my greatest blessings.
Consciousness and gratitude are truly at the heart of my work, my life – and it’s all about whole-self wellness. I recognize and accept it as essential for the well-being of humanity. Most often I’ve easily defaulted to staying on track of my thoughts, words, wishes and actions yet lately with my life at a most demanding pace and my mind so full, I’ve faltered. The impact is potent in its compromise of my sense of inner peace, my focus and productiveness and my purpose. If I continue on like this I know my health will take a hit.
Finding a way to navigate life’s madness.
I’ve long known I need a daily practice of listening to, reading or watching enlightening videos and podcasts as well as spending time in nature, solitude and silence. Some stretches of time I ace it and others I find myself lost in the habitual pattern of busy-ness disease with no time to nurture these essential self-care exercises. My sense is this is how it is for so many of us and it’s the inspiration for this article. We’re in need of more self-care. I’ll be so bold as to say most all of us are.
Awareness is the first step to overcoming the challenges yet reality is the work needs to be done. We need to source out all of the pathologic beliefs and behaviors impairing our life and make a plan to deal with this. Then we must take a step and then another and another and another if we are to over-come our hang-ups, our heart-aches, our dis-ease. Chances are this resonates with you on some level. The details and circumstances of how you got into this state may be very different yet my sense is the antidote I suggest is similar.
So I ask you, how about joining me in making a conscious commitment to overcome toxic circumstances and behaviors impeding us and the pursuit of our passions and finding a way to map out balance in all aspects of our everyday life. Rather than accepting and perpetuating the frantic pace of life and adopting busy-ness like an inevitable state of affairs lets rewrite this story we are telling ourselves. Life doesn’t have to be so frantic. We can say no. We can make different choices and get off the treadmill to madness and medications.
My initial move to reclaim my sense of self and sanity began with the intent to write in my gratitude/ inspirational ideas journal more regularly again yet sadly I didn’t sustain this. It was like I was looking to move up the staircase to that serene sense of calm too many steps at a time. I needed to let myself be a student again and let all my teachers and mentors help mend my messed up state of being. What this is for me... every day as I get ready for work I tune into podcasts. Yes the cell phone joins me in the bathroom and I listen to Wayne, Marianne, Deepak, Oprah, Tony Robbins, Donne Eden and so many others. It’s my sanctuary time. Imagine that to be any type of ‘sanctuary’ you like, for I was losing grip in my view. Losing my loving, peaceful, optimistic and joyful state of being! The ‘me’ I love being.
Coming back to my ‘thing’, my innate need to be cultivating my own inner worthiness and consciousness in order to help others do just that. A long loved quote – we teach best, what we must learn most – has always resonated with me. So I ask you, what is your thing? What do you need to have, do to cultivate your own sanctuary where you can retreat when life circumstances overwhelm and all you feel is weariness? A place that will provide you the nourishment you need to recover and regenerate your drive, your passion, your knowing, you are enough and worthy of your aspirations. Take time to reflect on this. If you go within and listen, your best health care practitioner, mentor, guardian angel will be there. All you need to do now, is go there. Consider this: Prayer is talking to God, Meditation is listening. Get quiet, go within, connect with your thing, embrace it and let this be your guide and inspiration for your life.
May perfect peace and inner joy embrace you always, all ways.
