Oh so hard to resist and at the same time you’re gonna want to savor every single one of them. Each time I make a single batch I think, “Why didn’t I double batch like usual?” This practice is such a time saver of course – big batch cooking - and a ‘hack’ I remind my clients to consider when they are preparing food.
Eating better is on most everyone’s mind and implementing ways to do this with ease means strategies are needed. Being well fueled with nourishing foods is a blessing on every level from increased energy levels, improved digestion, health promotion, disease prevention and more. It’s also fundamental to stress management, satiety and the ability to enjoy indulgences such as these amazing treats without guilt or remorse. But how do we manage this?
Reflect on how to take those faves and add in some vegetables. This alone is a step in the right direction and you can build on it. One meal at a time. This is how it goes when you want it to go well.
Many clients come in with preconceived beliefs. Most common is the belief - eating healthy is hard, time consuming, expensive, boring and involves self-sacrifice and deprivation.
Also common is feeling like it has to be an all or nothing approach. The same thought process often carries over into fitness training and mindful stress management.
With over thirty years of teaching, coaching and consulting on healthy lifestyle practices my clients consistently prove to me, going at a pace they can manage with ease and enjoyment is the best approach to take. It’s imperative they enjoy the food they’re eating and they can manage the meal making consistently. When it comes to exercise, this too needs to be time they are happy to set aside for themselves with enjoyable activities. It can be concerted time spent with a trainer, trail treks in nature, solo or team sports, group fitness classes, yoga, mini bouts of more intense movement when working or regular walks in the hood.
There are no hard set rules to implementing healthier habits outside of
‘stay consistent’ for this it’s a proven formula to seeing and sustaining results.
Back to these sin-free sweets… if you tend to be one who really loves to enjoy a sweet treat, these deliver on just that without the after effects of more indulgent rich and or processed foods that can sit heavy in and on the belly. This often comes coupled with that inkling of guilt or failure or remorse. All destructive emotions. A love-love relationship with self-care is the way to sustain healthy practices and this is the path to cultivating and keeping optimal health,
