What you may not realize is that cravings are your body’s way of telling you it needs something or perhaps that something is ‘off’. Cravings often indicate nutritional deficiencies, food intolerance, and yes even addictions to substances like sugar, salt, fat. Chocolate too.
This incredible vehicle that houses our soul - our body - is doing all it can to operate at an optimum level yet it needs you to provide the essentials. This includes a variety of nutrient dense foods. Consider cravings to be a call, text or email from your body saying ‘hey there, I need something from you.’ That something isn’t necessarily more calories, its more nutrients as in vitamins, minerals and trace minerals, healthy fats, fiber and amino acids.
Consider cravings to be a call, text or email from your body saying ‘hey there, I need something from you. Now its up to you to figure out what it is you may need.
Hint - in this post there is a truffle-like power ball to the rescue.
In this case your craving is similar to any substance addict - you need a 'fix' to help you feel better. Sadly it's short lived so you 'crave' another hit. A vicious cycle ensues.
When it comes to a conversational call from your body craving certain foods it may be related to nutrient deficiencies such as vitamins and minerals.
Nutrient deficiencies such as magnesium, chromium and calcium are often triggers for something sweet or salty or both. Instead of reaching for the first thing you see how about giving yourself a snack that both sates the craving as well as nourishes the body.
Nutrient dense, yummy food is what I am all for as you likely know if you follow me. Having you feel as great as you possibly can, acing fabulous energy levels, aging with grace and yes looking your best too. Today the focus is on magnesium deficiency and chocolate cravings. Yes this is what your body wants when you crave chocolate.
Approximately 80% of us are magnesium deficient! Given this, it’s no wonder so many people crave chocolate. I confess, I really, really love my chocolate (and yes I take magnesium supplements every day. Still I do have a dose of quality chocolate now and again.
